About This Theme:
Rationale for choosing this theme: When I received my topics to teach during my School Placement 2013, I realised that many of the topics included the exploration of a person who has made a difference in this world. Much of the 5th class history curriculum focuses on life, conflict and change over time. Throughout these strands, figures of importance are studied and the changes they made to our history and the history of the world are examined.
This site aims to explore important people in our world who have made a difference in every aspect of life in a refreshing and engaging way. It invites children and teachers to interact with the theme through ICT and multi-sensory resources, provide opportunities for thought and discussion and give teachers ideas based on people, topics and activities relating to this theme which can be implemented in the classroom. Class Level: 5th (and/or 6th) Class - Ages 10 - 13 years Curriculum Areas: This theme is very advantageous as it can be integrated with all curriculum areas. However, I integrated this theme with seven subjects: English (Reading, Writing and Oral Language), History, Science, Visual Arts, Drama, SPHE and Music. On this site, I have included the curriculum areas of History, Music and SPHE (with English included in the blog section) |
